News from Elsewhere: Arts Classes to be Cut at McGill

Bad news across the transom today: McGill is to cut up to 100 classes in the Faculty of Arts in the 2013-2014 academic year. Story at http://www.mcgilldaily.com/2013/01/100-arts-classes-to-be-eliminated/ and http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/McGill+cutting+back+arts+courses/7835800/story.html.

The best response to such unfortunate developments elsewhere? To strengthen the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. The students at McGill who are speaking out in the press make it clear what they think a healthy Faculty of Arts would give its students: small or “intimate” classes with lots of interaction with professors.
